Dr. Daniel Atwood is a horn player and pedagogue who has performed across the United States and Europe. Recently, Dr. Atwood has made solo appearances playing Marcel Bitsch’s Variations sur une Chanson Francaise at the International Horn Society’s South East Horn Workshop and Paul Basler’s Alleluia with the Shenandoah Valley Academy Choir. As an orchestral musician, he has made appearances with Sinfonia Gulf Coast (FL), Panama City Pops Orchestra (FL), Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra (VA), The Virginia Consort (VA), Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra (VA), Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra (VA), and Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra (VA).
As a pedagogue, Dr. Atwood has taught horn lessons for over seven years and has given lessons at the Shenandoah Valley Academy (VA), courses on Horn Fundamentals and Techniques along with individual lessons at James Madison University, mellophone sectionals along with individual lessons at Bellevue East High School (NE), and group lessons at Hutto Middle School (GA), Millbrook High School (VA).
Dr. Atwood earned his Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Master of Music in Brass Performance from Florida State University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Horn Performance from James Madison University. Dr. Atwood’s teachers include Ian Zook, Michelle Stebleton, Dr. Alan Mattingly, Dr. Nicholas Kenney, and Harold Oliver.
