Dr. Daniel Atwood is an experienced teacher, conductor, and performer who has appeared across the United States and Europe. He currently is a part of the Scottsdale Philharmonic’s conducting team and serves as Director of the Scottsdale Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Dr. Atwood also plays Principal Horn for the Scottsdale Philharmonic (AZ), Principal and Section Horn for the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra (MO), Section Horn for La Forza Chamber Orchestra (AZ), teaches K-2 Music at Archway Classical Academy Veritas, and directs the ACAV the String Club.
Before coming to Arizona, Dr. Atwood performed with the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra (VA), The Virginia Consort (VA), Rockbridge Choral Society (VA), Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra (VA), Panama City Pops Orchestra (FL), and Sinfonia Gulf Coast (FL). He has made solo appearances with the Scottsdale Philharmonic and as a Contributing Artist at the IHS South East Horn Workshop.
Dr. Atwood has given lectures at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference, the International Horn Society’s South East Horn Workshop, and Auburn University. As a Graduate Assistant at James Madison University, he taught Music Theory, Horn Fundamentals, Horn Lessons and served as Director of the JMU Horn Choir.
Dr. Atwood earned a D.M.A. in Horn Performance from James Madison University, a M.M. in Brass Performance from Florida State University, and a B.M. in Horn Performance from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
